Why isn't there an option to show higher resolution textures for other players' armor
I've noticed that everyone's armor is when "blurry" compared to my own character. Why is this?

If I had 1k every time this was asked...
To speed up gameplay, short answer. If you go into an explorable area etc. the high resolution will appear. |

There was a Texmod 'mod' that gives ya 'full resolution' if I recall right ...
But yeah, this game is old aka favours low low low tech comps ... so bare with us till we get GW2 ... |

How does it speed up gameplay? Perhaps when GW first game out, but with newer CPUs and graphics cards does it really make much of a difference?

There are most likely quite a few people playing GW on computers that can just barely handle the game, often a 2nd or 3rd family computer or laptop. I know of several people on such machines.
KSMod is available for those with machines that can handle it and works just fine, so putting in an option for it in the game would be nice, but pretty low priority. |

Download KSmod if you think your pc can handle rendering high quality in a town like kamadan with loads of people.

You registered here in 2006, I'd have thought that you would figure that Anet are not going to be editing the game for things like that.

In Kamadan (dist 1, the most populated) the dense area dropped me to around 30 fps. I have all settings maxed, with 2x AA. I am using an 8800gt and an x2 6000+.

Why it's not now an option is a mystery, yeah theres a 3rd party proggy that can enable high res textures in towns/outposts, but it is 3rd party, and I'm a little paranoid about using them. But you'd think by now after 4 years they would know that a lot of us have better comp's capable of handling the better gfx.
I think UT3 done something similar, it had high def/res or whatever models but didn't use them, seems like a lot of some peoples work going to waste imho. Imagine Leonardo Da Vinci painting a pic then before he let anyone see it, scanning it and reducing the quality, lol, rambling now but you get my point |
